Rescue in the North East of England
I do not know of any rat specific rescues in the North East, but there are many rescues that do take in rats, and a dedicated gang of individuals who both rescue and foster rats in need. If you are interested in finding out more, or getting involved please do get in touch.
The North of England Rat Society also runs a Rescue Fund which is available for anyone who works with rescue rats to apply to for help with costs (eg veterinary care or equipment). The accessibility of this fund has helped many adult male rats in particulalr, by paying for castrations so that these rats are able to easily accept other adult company prior to, or after homing. The NERS site has loads more detail about the Rescue Fund.

Aya and her babies
Aya and her babies are part of the rescue that Liza (NRSA) did recently from a home where the woman had 4 mixed sexed youngsters living together, which resulted in two litters, at which point she was told by the agency responsible for her accommodation to rehome her pets.
I have called mum Aya, short for Ayasha which is a Cheyenne Indian name meaning "little one". She is tiny and I would guess at being around 3 months old. She is a gorgeous agouti hooded who is extremely friendly and easy to handle.

The babies were born around the 4th November judging from the day they opened their eyes. There are 2 agouti hooded girls, 2 agouti hooded boys and 2 silver fawn hooded boys. They will be homed in the following groups:
- Group one - Aya and her two daughters.
- Group two - one agouti hooded boy and one silver fawn hooded boy.
- Group three - one agouti hooded boy and one silver fawn hooded boy.
Group two and three may of course be rehomed together.

I will be keeping them until around 7 weeks, so ready the week of the 21st December. I will be doing a run down the A1 to Cambridgeshire that week, including a detour to York, so east side of the country transport can be arranged. Will also be heading to Carlise on Boxing day or around then - so could meet up on the West side of the north too.
If you are interested in homing these rats please email me. You will be asked to complete our application form and a home check may be required.
Liza has other rescue rats available including babies and young adult does. She can be contacted through the NRSA.
