Group one

There are three castrated boys and two girls in group one, who live in the top half of a duetto.

Who?

Nezumi Nursery Little Rascal (AKA Rascal) - a black dumbo, with white socks, out of a brother to sister mating (Nezumi Abe and Nezumi Charlotte) based on Shunamite anscestry. Rascal is named after a real ale and *is* his name. He's a complete poppet; humorous, cheeky and deeply engaging. He bounces through life with a zest for experience; he is The Gay Gordon, conkers and a tumbler full of fine ruby port mixed with fizzy lemonade. I have so far shared almost 16 months of Rascal's living and he has never had an off day, or complained about anything: his life is a celebration of being alive. Rascal is alpha of his group, and the whole gang reflect his sunny disposition. The only reason I haven't bred from him yet is because I have been trying to 'tone down' alpha tendancies in my rats after a very strong outcross in Woo. I would be very sad never to have any little Little rascals!

Update: August 2010 Sadly, Ticket (Rascal's brother) died recently from a large single chest abscess typical of the London agouti rescue related abcesses that we and others have experienced. This means that all of his cage mates are potentially infected too and cannot be used for breeding.

Update October 2010 With respect to the abscess problems and to reduce the chances of one of these rats being left on their own Rascal is now castrated and the two groups have been amalgamated.

When?

DOB 05.04.09

Where?

Rascal is from Nezumi's (Helen and Laura) first litter. All of his grandparents were Shunamite rats. .

What?

He is a black dumbo with white half socks.

Why?

While I picked out his brother (Ticket), Rascal picked me! He flung himself at me the moment we met and has been throwing himself at me ever since. I love him to the core.

Who?

Shunamite Shaken not stirred (AKA Jake) - American cinnamon, carrying red eye, out of Ratoon Gypsy's Kiss (AKA Gypsy), a black dumbo and Shunamite Tom's Gold (AKATom), a topaz dumbo. Jake was a shy, but friendly youngster, who I think was well dominated by the group alpha at the time. As the group has diminished in size and Rascal has been alpha, Jake has blossomed into a completely delightful creature, with a sweet and confident nature. He is marshmallows toasted over an open fire, ripe cornfields and metamophosis!

When?

DOB 01.02.09

Where?

Jake was born here to Ratoon Gypsy's Kiss, a black dumbo and Shunamite Tom's Gold, a topaz dumbo.

What?

He is a very ruddy American cinnamon due to carrying red eye dilute.

Why?

Jake was out of an outcross litter, with the aim of softening the alpha temperament here at the time - he and brother Sami stayed here. Jake is far from alpha material and may well be used to enhance our line in the near future.

Update October 2010 Sadly Jake has now had one facial abscess and will not be used for breeding. To reduce the chances of one of these rats being left on their own Jakel is now castrated and the two groups have been amalgamated.

Who?

Shunamite Catch this drift (AKA Blue) - agouti out of Rivendell Boogie Woogie floo (AKA Woo) and Nezumi Return ticket (AKA Ticket). He is named from Alanis lyrics and "Blue" came from the colour marking used to differentiate him in a litter of agoutis, as a baby. He was going to be Drift, but Blue stuck. Blue is a rat who has taken time to grow into my heart... perhaps because he was easier to 'overlook' amongst a large group of attention whores! Now that the group is diminished, Blue has expanded and he has become splendid in his own right. I knew we had made it when during a recent time out session I took him away from the group and onto the bed with me, and he spent the entire time demanding that I engage with him, making face to face contact, exploring my mouth, ears, nose and cementing relationship. Well done Blue. He is unexpected midsummer rain and Jack in the boxes!

When?

DOB 22.09.09

Where?

Blue was born here to Rivendell Boogie Woogie floo (AKA Woo), and agouti and Nezumi Return ticket (AKA Ticket), a black dumbo.

What?

He is an agouti.

Why?

Blue and his brother Meet a kindred (Red) stayed here as potential stud bucks to continue the tabi line here. I currently have no immediate plans to use Blue.

Update October 2010 With respect to the abscess problems and to reduce the chances of one of these rats being left on their own Blue is now castrated and the two groups have been amalgamated.

Who?

Nezumi Merrymaker is the gentle sister; calmest of a trio of girls bred form my lines by Nezumi Nursery. Tthough still full of bounce and enthusiasm, she is so pretty and pleasant and easy going; I called her Merrymaker simply because of her ability to make me happy. Her name continues our real ale theme. Merry is cherry blossom, white chocolate and feathers.

When?

DOB 05.04.2009

Where?

Merry is from Helen and Laura's second litter. She has two Nezumi Tabi line parents.

What?

She is a black dumbo.

Why?

Merry came with her siblings to rejuvenate the tabi line here. I wanted lots of choice! Since Merry has had a "London agouti" style neck abscess the jury is still out on breeding from her. Despite her loveliness - as I have plenty of choice - I probably won't.

Update October 2010 Merry was bred from (to Red) in the spring of 2010 and produced 3 baby girls who stayed here (Belle, Beau and Bonnie). They were separated from her at 6 weeks because of the abscess problem and have remained fit and well ever since. If they remain abscess free they may be bred form at around a year of age.

Who?

Nezumi Scallywag - AKA Ali is the naughty sister, into everything and never still. She's highly explorative and likes nothing better than to zoom past me at the cage door and up onto the top of the duetto. Her name is a real ale that reflects her personality. Devastatingly appealing; she won Reserve Best Pet at her first show, along with Best Overall Fitness. Ali is baked Alaska, water slides and bubbles.

Update October 2010 Ali had a still born litter (to Kit) in the spring of 2010, thought to be abscess related. She recovered well and is now settled happily under Blue's wing.

When?

DOB 05.04.2009

Where?

Ali is from the same litter - Nezumi Abe and Nezumi Charlotte. Brother and sister from tabi line rats.

What?

She is a USA mink.

Why?

Came as one of the triplets chosen for me by Laura. I am hoping she will have a litter here in the spring of 2010. Possibly to Alison Triggs' Kit.
