Hi! The first thing I want to clear is that I am the wonderful
Fizzle, and that I own a human called Alison and her daughter called Joanne.
One day - quite a while ago - I was playing out with my good friends (who I live with) when I had this weird urge to see what was out of the confinement of those big, white walls. After looking around the place for a long time an idea struck me. How did my humans get in and out? Oh yes! The big ‘door’ thing! There was a extremely small gap under the door-thing. But it was far to small for me, although I was the smallest of the lot, to get under.
So there I had a problem.
There was a carpet that went right up to the door-thing if only I could get rid of that stupid carpet it would be SO MUCH easier.
Then I thought for a bit. Of course! I didn’t have to get rid of the carpet, just that bit of it! So I started chewing. After a long time and a very tired jaw, I had it done. It still looked a little bit small but I started anyway...
"Erm, Lily?" I said, rather shyly.
"Yes?" She said with a full mouth.
Lily, I must explain, is a very kindly rat and will help anyone at the first chance she gets, except when she is eating.
"I sorta need a little push from the back." I said.
"You mean you’re stuck?"
"Err... no... well maybe... yeah."
"Oh. Just a minute then. Wait till I’ve finished eating."
"But Lily, It HURTS!"
"Wait!"
"LILY!"
"Okay, okay."
So Lily pushed me for a while and I finally got to the other side.
I was greeted by smells of strange things. Dogs, far away toast cooking, dirty clothes, and - and - BOYS! I wanted to see where these boys were. They were quite near. I just had to follow my nose... A bit over here... No, how about over here? YES! They were behind ANOTHER door-thing. I’ll tell you something, these door-things can be a nuisance and a half.
But this door-thing had a bigger gap underneath. I was glad of this since there was no Lily to push me through this time. So I squeezed under the door and I was greeted by three big grins.
"Hello little lady."
Said one of the rats-behind-the-grins.
"I’m Romeo."
"Oooooh! I said!
"Yes, I know!" Said Romeo, pushing through his friends. "Yes I know... Oooooh!"
I was rather scared by this and more out of instinct than anything else I ran right across to the other side of the room.
Romeo ran after me. "Cloud, Brian, Come here and help me catch her. But when we do, I get her!" So we ran madly around the room. I was a lot faster than them but not fast enough to get a big enough lead to slip back under the door. After a while I decided that I was never going to get away, and besides, I was VERY out of breath. So I spun round, "Ok!OK! What do you want me for?" I asked, panting. "Oh, nothing really" said Romeo, and then dived at me.
Kids are OK, I guess, if not a bit demanding when you have 14.
Ten minutes later Alison came in the room saying "OK boys, time to go back into you’re ca... Fizzle? Fizzle! What are you doing here?" and then jumped at me. Of course, I don’t approve of people grabbing you while you are busy giving bad boys a good ticking off, and I tried to get away.
"Fizzle! Come back here now!" Said Alison.
I jumped.
"Fizzle!
"FIZZLE" she said. And grabbed me.
My children have come and gone to homes and I enjoyed the experience.
Fizzle died at the age of 2 years from respiratory illness. There was a lot more to Fizzle’s life than this and she has written about some of it. You can find a poem that Alison wrote about Fizzle and her son, Gonzalis at Fizzle & Gonzalis' poem
Fizzle
